It's not really about cracking the job, I think if you continue to apply and if you continue to give a number of interviews, you will eventually crack the rule. But typically, what will differentiate you from somebody else is, if they already have pm experience in their resume, right. So that is I mean, how do I it's like a vicious cycle, right people hire you if you have experience, but to get pm experience, you need to get hired first. So, if I answer this question specifically for those who are looking to enter it, for the first time, I would say this is what I did. Obviously, the internship helped. And I also did a number of live projects with startups which were willing to just give me the opportunity to build and learn personally to me pm role is like any art, right? Like, if you're learning to mean you can't learn to play a guitar unless you play the guitar. So there's only so much theory you can learn but you need to practice to get better at it. So just start building you don't need to be a pm to start building there are so many new tools today that anybody can launch a product right sitting from their home. So whatever problem you feel you want to solve for just start building something, and that talking about that in your interview itself will show how much of product curiosity you have, how much of passion you have towards the role, and it really helps to crack the role itself. And always keep a lookout for projects, unpaid internships or projects there are there's so much demand for PMS. I mean, it's just about demand meeting supply right. So as a new first time pm if you are open to working for gaining experience, I'm sure you will find the right role to break into PM.
To break into your first PM role, you can consider the following: 1. Have a good understanding of the PM role Product Management is a complex and nuanced field with many intricacies worth investigating. To become an effective product manager, one must know their craft and understand how it works. An excellent way to start this process is by practising and understanding the fundamentals of product management yourself. Read up on the standard topics, study each concept until you have it nailed down and then apply them in real-life situations so that your decisions are well informed. 2. Practice the art of product management If you have a passion for something and want to work on it, PM-style work is like a magic wand that lets you produce results without having a boss, or anyone else tells you how to do it. In addition, you can start doing PM tasks wherever you happen to be, which means it's a great way to network and build your reputation. 3. Focus on delivering value The best way to start your PM job search is by making yourself valuable to the hiring party. Offer connections, create content and productively engage on social media.
