Hello Rohan! To be a product manager you don't necessarily have to have a background but skills of management, market research, being able to deal with the dynamicity of the environment, and what needs to be done if it works or fails. Acquire the skill set, create a portfolio, learn project management then you can become a product manager after acquiring the skill set. To know more on the same topic, I recommend you to do this course, it would enhance your current skillset and knowledge https://seekho.ai/courses/make-a-career-in-product-management/CT-131-28486
Hi Rohan!
Product Management is all about solving problems, taking data driven decisions, understanding how to deal with different stakeholder, having a good design sense and being extremely user empathetic. These are the skills that organisations and interviewers look for in a good candidate. You must attend some workshops or interactive bootcamps that would hone these skills, introduce you to the role and help you think like a PM. Be thorough with books such as ‘Cracking the PM Interview’ and ‘Decode and Conquer’ or any other resources to familiarise yourself with Tech for PMs, metrics, UI/UX methodologies, frameworks and the kinds of questions asked in interviews. Observe your favourite app or website and try to analyse the problem it is trying to solve and it’s target audience. Write about how you would approach it as a case study and share it with Product folks on LinkedIn, Medium and Seekho to get feedback on your analysis and also grab eyeballs. When you feel you’re ready for interviews, strategically follow and reach out to PMs on LinkedIn at your target companies with a good introduction. Good referrals also go a long way, so connect with your college alumni or reach out to your network to help you connect with Product teams. Work on creating a killer resume which focuses on important skill keywords and impact created through projects, internships and college activities.
